Japhet Ondari, 38, from Kisii County who is suffering from a nerve cancerous tumor is appealing for well wishers' financial support to undergo an operation at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) to save his life.
Ondari, who has been bed-ridden for 12 years after he was attacked by gangsters at Bonyansiaga village, Bobasi constituency said he requires Sh300,000 to buy implants to stabilise his broken spinal cord and cancerous tumor to avoid further health complications.
Speaking to this writer on Tuesday at his home, the survivor, who was diagnosed with Neurofibroma, a peripheral nerve tumor, said the tumor had weakened his body and he walks on clutches.
Ondari who has been seeking consultancy from Dr F. Koech at MTRH said he has been going to different hospitals for 12 years, hoping to recover but his broken spinal cord oozes pus and blood and has affected other parts of his body.
He said the disease has impoverished his family members who have been assisting him financially.
“My wife begs money to buy me drugs and food. It pains me to watch my wife and children struggle to survive due to my sickness,” he said.
More painful, the patient says his attempt to seek financial assistance from area leaders has always hit snag.
"I have approached my MCA, Bonface Okenye and Senator Chris Obure but they have been bouncing on my appeal," alleges Ondari.
He added: "Only my MP; Stephen Manoti has assisted me but not enough. He has only been giving me like sh. 2000 for fare yet am needed a huge chunk of money to treat my problem."
The father of five said he was attacked by unknown and armed assailants at night on February 2003 as he was heading home from Riomare Centre.
He said he has forgiven his attackers and is only appealing for support to recover and be able to provide for his family again.
