Supporters of opposition Cord from Nyamira County have been urged to restrain from any acts that could lead to violent conduct following the proceedings by IEBC special committee that is set to decide whether or not to expunge the name of Co-principal Moses Wetangula from the voter register.

Senator Wetangula risks having his voting rights stripped following a decision of Supreme Court that found him culpable of voter bribery, an electoral offence hence making fight for his future at the committee.

On Tuesday at Tombe region, Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire had to intervene to calm a group of youths who had started chanting anti-Jubilee songs, accusing the governing coalition of being behind the flamboyant Bungoma Senator’s woes.

Bosire urged the angry youths to respect the proceedings of the committee and give it time to give a determination on the matter.

“As our supporters, I want to appeal to you to refrain from any acts that can lead to violent conduct over the matter. Let’s respect the committee that was mandated to listen to our case and make a determination. Lest always maintain calm because that is the core principle of Cord coalition,” he said.

The first term ODM MP who is also the party’s National Treasurer urged the committee to gauge the mood on the ground and make favorable decision that will be for the interest of promoting peace and calmness.

“I just want to plead with IEBC to be very cautious in their determination and I am worried if youths from Nyamira can attempt to demonstrate and this means things might be worse across the country if the committee fails to make a favorable decision. Wetangula is a national leader and his woe touches a large number of his supporters across the country. But what’s important, our supporters should be calm till a verdict is made and even after that,” he said.

The committee under the leadership of Thomas Letangule is set to make a verdict in eight days’ time after initiating its hearing on Tuesday.
