Eldoret Equity Bank branch manager Mr Joseph Muiruri has urged the national and county governments to increase their bursary budgetary allocation to cater for the rising number of needy students.

Speaking on Tuesday during the flagging ceremony of thirty students who benefited from the Wings to Fly, Equity Bank Foundation programme, Muiruri said the number of bright but needy students have increased, therefore the need to increase the allocations.

“In Uasin Gishu County we got over one thousand applications for only thirty slots. Countrywide, we had two twenty two thousand and as Equity Bank we can only sponsor two thousand, therefore other stakeholders need to come on board and assist. It was difficult for us to come to thirty since every child was in need,” he said.

He said the scholarships for the thirty students will fully cater for their schools fees, shopping and pocket money for the four years that they will be pursuing their secondary education.

“I urge students who have benefited to work hard in class as a sign of appreciation for the Equity Bank Foundation, at the end of the secondary education we want nothing else than clean As," he said.
