Some teachers in Nakuru are on the spot for administering severe corporal punishment to students, an action that is against the law.

This is according to Elementaita ward MCA Moses Ndung'u Kamau who says that the issue should be handled by the relevant authorities before it gets out of hand.

He called on both county and sub-county to professionally deal with the perpetrators arguing that it might lead to an advent of school dropouts something that might negatively affect education standards in the county.

"Disciplining a student is not bad, do it in a reasonable manner. Some teachers are punishing their students as if they have an issue to settle with them which is totally unacceptable," he said.

He gave an example of a case where he was forced to intervene to get a student resume class two months after she opted out of school after being roughed up by a teacher on duty when she got to school late.

Kamau stressed the importance of parents teaching their children good morals as they grow saying that some students become unmanageable because of poor parenting.

"As parents, let's fully play our role of injecting good morals to our children so that by the time we are releasing them to the school environment, they know what is expected from them thus giving the teacher an ample time," he noted.

He was speaking at Meli Primary school on Friday where he hosted a string of senior county officials led by governor Kinuthia Mbugua while on his week long uniform distribution programme to different schools across the larger Nakuru County.
