The government has been asked to enact stiffer penalties for motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol in bid to save innocent lives.
This was the message by Lucy Wanjiku, mother to Dominic Mwangi Ng'ang'a, one of the five teenagers who died in a grisly road accident at Salgaa on New Year's day.
Speaking during a requiem mass Tuesday at the St Lwanga Secondary School, Wanjiku painfully recalled the last moments her son, saying tough measures should be put in place to save lives.
"Its a matter of policy because if the law could be very strict, my son could not have died in such an inhumane manner. The government is really letting us down on matters to do with policy making," she said, amid tears in her eyes.
The distraught mother urged the county government to erect more checkpoints on the killer highway, further calling for thorough scrutiny by the relevant officials manning the points.
She said if that could have been the case, the drunk young men could have been noticed and arrested on time.
Dominic was in the company of Derrik Wainaina, Kevin Kamuru, Bill Kamau and Brian Kariuki, all under 18 years.
The mass was attended by among others, Nacada boss John Mututho, Njoro MCA Ezekiel Kariuki and representatives from the county government.
