Kisii University has given new guidelines to food sellers on how they will conduct their businesses during this year's graduation ceremony slated for December 11.

A communication from the university's Medical department on Wednesday stated clearly that all business persons wishing to sell their food products during the said day will have to undergo medical testing before being allowed at the ground of the ceremony.

"Medical certificate of fitness is mandatory to all food handlers before being allowed to carry out the business. Any person interested in selling any kind of foodstuff during graduation day is advised to report to the medical department for guidance before Friday, December 4," read part of a notice from the department.

The institution's Public Health Officer, Dr Clement Marita, said failing to undergo the test is contravention of CAP 242 of the Laws of Kenya and that a person will be liable to prosecution if found selling foodstuff without a certificate of licence.

Wholesalers and retailers are expected to pay a fee of Sh3,000 and Sh300 respectively for selling space.

Moreover, a medical examination fee of Sh190 will be charged for all the business persons.
