Ruiru women have been challenged to take part in active politics and push their development agenda forward.

Addressing women at Mwhiko trading center in Githurai on Monday after commissioning the construction of the Z-corner-Kiriri road, area MP Esther Gathongo told women not to shy away from politics.

She indicated that women have the potential of making good politicians and leaders and transforming the society for the better.

“It is time for us women to come out and engage in actively in politics because it is the opportunity where we can advance our interests and welfare,” she said.

Gathongo at the same time asked women who are in leadership to advance the interests of their fellow women.

She noted that some women were keeping silent when the interests of the colleagues were being undermined and their rights infringed.

“As women leaders we must stand together and advance a common agenda for the sake of empowering our colleagues,” she said.

On the same note, the MP asked residents to register as voters massively saying it is the only way they will be able to elect leaders who will bring change.
