The government will build a prison to exclusively hold extremists and people convicted of terrorism activities in the country, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.

Speaking at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru, Kiambu County during a pass out parade for prison trainees on Tuesday, President Kenyatta said that the move will curb radicalisation among youth.

President Kenyatta said that violent extremism remains the biggest security challenge but said the government has taken appropriate steps in fighting extremists.

He said the government will not tire in the fight against terrorism and extremist groups.

“The government will continue to implement and support programmess aimed at ensuring security of Kenyans,” said President Kenyatta.

The head of State urged youth to shun extremist groups and instead support development.

President Kenyatta urged security agencies to work diligently and secure Kenyan territories.

He promised staff and personnel at the Prisons department that the government will look into their conditions of service.

“We will tailor our budget to ensure that you have the good environment to work in,” said the Head of State.

The event was attended by top government officials and Kiambu government deputy governor Gerald Githinji, Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Women Representative Annah Nyokabi and Ruiru MP Esther Gathongo among others.
