President Uhuru Kenyatta should dissolve his cabinet and reconstitute it afresh to win the hearts of Kenyans, top academicians from Kisii have said.

This comes amid corruption claims and counterclaims between the government and opposition Cord that has seen a section of MPs collect signatures to impeach embattled Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru over corruption claims in her ministry.

Led by Prof Bogonko Nyanchieo when addressing Mars Group Members, the scholars noted high levels of corruption in government departments and urged the president to crack the whip and reshuffle cabinet.

“It is sad that we wake up and hear top government officials implicated in mega corruption scams yet the President is remaining mum," he said.

"Time has come for him to dissolve the cabinet and reconstitute it afresh because Kenyans are losing faith in his government."

Prof Bogonko said the cabinet had failed the President by making his government fight corruption claims every week, raising questions about the government’s commitment to fight corruption.

“We have seen for instance the Ann Waiguru case and that is a wake up call for the President to fire all of them and reconstitute the cabinet afresh. If he fails to do that, the economy of the country will crumble,” he said.

Dr Erick Ogwora labeled cabinet secretaries as ‘liability’ to the President and urged him to dismiss them.

“The Presidential seat is political and you can imagine the implication. It is unfortunate that he (Uhuru Kenyatta) continues to entertain people who are a liability to his government. He should even crack a whip on Principal Secretaries to restore public confidence,” he said.

Prof Albert Getabu challenged EACC and the office of DPP to work without external interference to bring corruption culprits into books.

“I support the move to disband the cabinet because it will be a good sign that the government is committed in fighting corruption because senior officials have been linked to questionable deals. However, EAC and DPP’s office should do their jobs properly,” he said.
