Kisii county chief of staff Joel Momanyi has passed on. His death occurred on Friday night at Karen Hospital, Nairobi after a short illness.
The late Momanyi joined the county government in January 2015 as the chief of staff in Governor James Ongwae’s office.
Governor Ongwae, his Deputy Joash Maangi and other county officials received the sad news of his death on Saturday morning with shock and dismay.
“I have lost a great person and the entire Kisii county government will sorely miss him. My heart goes out to his family, friends, relatives and everyone who knew him," said Ongwae.
"I pray that the Almighty gives them peace and the comfort they need at this difficult moment. To the people of Mochengo, Nyacheki ward in Bobasi sub-county, please accept my condolences for losing one of your own,” added Ongwae.
Deputy governor Maangi said, “It is with profound shock that I have learnt of the death of our chief of staff. To the family, kindly accept my sympathies during this trying moment"
"To my staff members, we have lost a committed colleague. Let us join hands in comforting the family," added Maangi.
Momanyi had a couple of years of experience in the public service, having worked in the national government as an under secretary. He also worked at the National Treasury as the Budgetary Supply Officer.
In addition, he had also worked in the Federation of Kenyan Employers (FKE) in which he served as the Principal management training consultant, where his remit was in the areas of consultancy and capacity building.
He will be remembered for his contribution in the publication of the FKE Code of Conduct on HIV/Aids in the workplace, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Code of Best Practice on HIV/Aids in the World, among other works.
He held a Master of Education degree (M.Ed) from, a Master of public administration from (M.P.A) from University of Massachusetts.
Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma in international labour standards, productivity improvement and enterprise development from the International Training Centre, Turin.
