A women’s group in Nakuru is committed to ensuring that street children, commercial sex workers and alcoholics in the county are reformed and live a normal life.

The group’s patron Rosemary Okemwa, said their eyes are set on the prize which according to them is ensuring a safe and productive county.

Speaking in Nakuru town on Friday amid revelations that their Hope Restoration Initiative women group is in the process of partnering with the county government to help them envision their project, Okemwa said theirs has been a long journey that has taken them many years and no obstacle will come in between in to make them back off.

“A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step and as a group, we are committed to this project and I don’t see why somebody somewhere might doubt our capabilities,” the nominated MCA said.

She noted that they were touched by the recent activities in the county where alcoholism had taken root in some parts in that the on-going fight against illicit brews had rendered some individuals inactive due to the severe effects of being a drug addict.

Okemwa also pitied street children who are forced to sleep in the cold with the on-going El Nino rains saying as mothers, they had been moved by their suffering and as a group they were ready to offer them an alternative place to call home.

“So far, we have already identified some of the critical concerns that call for an immediate intervention and are coming up with relevant solutions to address the same,” she noted.

The group held a meeting with Governor Kinuthia Mbugua at his county headquarters and the patron was optimistic of a mutual working partnership between them for the success of their project.
