Drug abuse such as alcohol and cigarette smoking has become a common habit in Kibera.
Speaking at Olympic area at his clinic on Sunday, Simon Munyao, a clinical doctor said that many youth in Kibera have turned to drug abuse in the recent days.
“Many youths in Kibera have developed a bad habit of smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol without researching on the consequences. Seminars and public barazas need to be conducted to educate youths on this,” said Munyao.
He said that once one gets addicted to drug abuse, it becomes very difficult to quit the habit. He urged residents and parents in the area to take responsibility of educating their youth on the health hazards that can be caused by these habits.
Munyao concluded that many youth get involved in drug intake and alcohol consumption due to peer pressure and due to that he asked the youth to choose good friends who will not mislead them in life.
