Kisii county contractors held peaceful demonstrations on Thursday in Kisii town demanding for an explanation from the county government over delay in the payment of their money.
Led by the Kisii county Contractors Association chairman Kennedy Mariera and secretary James Ondari, they accused the county government of ignoring and turning a deaf year to their issues.
"We are so much frustrated by governor James Ongwae's government because it has totally declined to address our issues and pay us our money," said chairman Mariera.
"We have witnessed money being wasted in various projects initiated by the county in various wards yet the county accuse the national government of delay in releasing funds to the county," added the association's secretary, Ondari.
Ongwae, however, responded by saying that some of the contractors had been paid by his detractors to disrupt his government. He added that the contractors would be paid their money but reminded them that some of them have already been sorted.
"I know some of you are being used by my opponents to taint my name and the name of my government that I don't want to pay you. Those who are using you should hold their horses till 2017. We will tussle when that time comes, but for now, let us join hands and support development in our county," said governor Ongwae.
Ongwae said these on Thursday evening when he held an indoor meeting with the contractors. Conversely, the press was locked out of the Boardroom.
