The agony facing commuters at the Likoni channel are far from over as they had to endure yet another frustrating morning on Monday.

The residents who were heading to work were forced to wait for some time as the functioning ferries at the facility failed to rise to the occasion again.

I was not spared either, as I had to wait for close to 50 minutes for me to cross to the other side of the channel.

To the observers of the situation, they believe that there is something surely wrong at the facility. The long queues which were witnessed on Monday morning at the facility are enough to justify that assertion.

To the commuters, the situation is now becoming part of their daily lives as all the promises made to them so far have sounded hollow, as nothing tangible has been done to redeem the bad image of the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) quality of service delivery.

Stranded Likoni residents who were eagerly waiting for the next available ferry stood in desperation as they had no other alternative rather than just being patient.

The motorists were not spared either. Traffic jam is now becoming the face of the busy Likoni road, with the congestion being often attributed to the delays at the channel.

Likoni residents are continuing to give their mixed views, which are all similar in content.

The residents believe that they have been failed by the facility's top management which they accuse of incompetence and negligence.

Evans Odera, a Likoni resident, said moving out of Likoni was the only solution to his endless predicaments.

“I am planning to move out of this area. I am about to lose to my job as I always arrive at work late,” said Odera.

His sentiments were echoed by Enoch Onyango, who is also considering moving out.

“I will move out of Likoni soon, possibly next month,” he said.

However, Anthony Wambua, a resident, is optimistic that the situation will soon improve. He urged the relevant institutions to come to their rescue.

As to when the Likoni Channel problem will be solved, remains a hard question in the minds of many commuters.
