Maseno residents have been cautioned against selling land recklessly to meet their basic needs.
Speaking Friday in Maseno, area chief Nicholas Toro cautioned the residents against the move saying they risk becoming squatters in their own land.
He said the rate at which people were selling land was alarming.
Toro cautioned residents to seek alternative income sources to meet their needs instead of disposing off their farms.
“Don’t go for quick, cheap money. This never lasts for long. The person you sell your land to is benefitting while you stand to lose in the long run. Be ware so as not to become squatters in your own land,” he said.
The administrator also warned youth against selling their lands saying their fathers and grandfathers were not foolish for preserving it for them.
"Be responsible over what was left for you."
A surveyor, Thomas Kileti, said the land business is very lucrative in the region at the moment, and a source of easy quick money.
Most investors are competing for land making it one of the most valuable assets.
