Women in Mombasa County have supported the call by Nominated Senator Emma Mbura to deny men sex if they frustrate their efforts to register as voters.
Amina Abdallah who is a Mombasa resident urged women from the region to take the voter registration exercise seriously ahead of the 2017 general election.
“We as women support what Ms Mbura said. Women need to register as voters in large numbers to have a say in the forthcoming general election,” Ms Abdallah said.
Rukia Juma, a businesswoman, said women should turn up in large numbers and register as voters for them to exercise their constitutional right.
“Women from this region and others should deny their men sex if they are frustrating their rights to be voters. Women should register in numbers to boost their chances of making critical decisions in elections,” said Ms Juma.
Ms Mbura who was speaking at Mazeras said women and children tend to bear the brunt of bad leadership, but women have a chance to change this trend by participating in the next general election.
“The time has come for women to determine who will lead them. Women must register to vote. Gone are the days when our husbands used to dictate terms on us especially on matters concerning leaders,” said Ms Mbura.
