Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has maintained that he will continue working on programmes aimed at creating employment and empowering the youth.

Ngunjiri reiterated that youths are vulnerable to many social ills within the community, and engaging them productively is a sure way to salvage them.

“When we talk about our youths turning to crime, drugs and people who do not know themselves; it is really painful. But as a leader, I will not tire working on programmes that will address their concerns, mainly jobs,” he said.

He further stated that he will engage other stakeholders in the community and address concerns that have been raised by youths in Bahati.

He challenged youths to embrace technical courses saying the field has a huge market potential that is yet to be exploited.

“In addressing unemployment, we need to approach the issue in a number of ways and to begin with, let us embrace technical courses because there is a market that has not been tapped yet,” the MP said.

Ngunjiri spoke in response to queries by this writer on Tuesday on what plans he has for Bahati youths in 2016.

On Monday, through the Bahati CDF office, 200 youths from the area received their interim driving licences after completing their driving course.

Ngunjiri added that the driving courses offered to the youths was one of the ways which his office was addressing unemployment and vouching for empowerment.

“We have paid for their driving course and with the licenses in hand; they can put food on the table and be focused. They will have no time to idle around and drink alcohol aimlessly,” noted the MP.
