After President Uhuru Kenyatta directed that the National Youth Service programmes resume countrywide, an MP from Nakuru has told off critics politicising the programme.

On Thursday, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri said the government is not using the programme as a political tactic but as a mechanism to create employment.

“The President took oath of office where he promised to work for the people of Kenya. He has indeed worked and NYS programme is a result of his hard work not a political formation,” he said in Bahati.

Ngunjiri also stated that since the inception of the programme, many youths and families have benefitted.

He said this after several quarters from the opposition contestedthe return of NYS project which ground to a halt after a multimillion corruption scandal in the then Ministry of Devolution.

The NYS programme is now under the newly created Ministry of Youths Affairs headed by Cecily Kariuki.

Ngunjiri further told the opposition that de-whipping their members of Parliament for associating with their colleagues from Jubilee was an ill informed move.

However, he welcomed any member from the opposition who would like to decamp to jubilee saying that the coalition is will welcome them with open hands.
