The relationship between a section of Nyamira youth leaders and county Governor John Nyagarama continues to deteriorate as the youth team now labels the county government as ‘ineffective and disgrace’ to the people.

The onslaught on Governor John Nyagarama’s government was led by Youth Summit Leader Nyambega Gisesa and his Youth Can, President Justus Maeche on Sunday during a funeral at Magombo ward.

The duo accused the county leadership of locking out the young generation in key government positions and slammed the ministry of youths as a laughing stock to county residents.

“His leadership (Nyagarama) is ineffective and a disgrace to people. The young people have been sidelined from key employment opportunities in the county government making them live in abject poverty," said Nyambega.

"The ministry of youths is becoming a laughing stock. It has no concrete plans to uplift the living standards of youths whom it purports to represent,” he said.

Maeche on his part questioned the process of tendering and accused the county government of flouting the constitution provision of youth tenders in both county and national government.

“I have no hard feelings but as youths, we are keenly following the administration in our county. The 30% tenders for youths are just but a narrative," said Maeche.

"People are given tender based on their closeness with the governor. Youths have only been reduced to spectators,” he said.

Kenya Universities student union Secretary General Walter Samuel condemned the county leadership and accused it of hampering youth progress.

“When we come together as youths, the county government is out there to divide us. They did that in December 2015 by aborting the youth summit," said Samuel.

"They are doing so because they fear our unity and here they are hindering progress among us. This is unfair and the governor must prepare to pack in 2017,” he said.
