A section of Nyaribari Chache residents have decried alleged poor service delivery at Keumbu sub-district hospital.
Speaking to this reporter on Tuesday, they alleged that nurses arrive to the hospital late and leave early making patients suffer.
"We are not getting any help at Keumbu Hospital. We thought that after the elevation of Kisii Level 5 Hospital to a referral facility they would enable our sub-district hospital to assume the level 5 status and offer improved services; what we are seeing is exactly the opposite," said Hesborn Michira, a resident in the area.
"We are now forced to seek medical service at hospitals in Kisii town," he added.
They also complained about the accounting system which they revealed was left to security personnel. They further linked the nurses and security officers to corruption.
"The security officers and some nurses are very corrupt since you can only be attended to if you give them something. We also worried that accounting work is done by the security officers; does the hospital not have an accounting department?" questioned Kennedy Okemwa, another resident.
They are now calling on the county government to intervene and salvage the situation.
Kisii county director of health Dr. Geoffrey Otomu while addressing a gathering on Tuesday at Gusii stadium during the marking of World Aids Day refuted the claims saying that health services have been improved in the county.
However, he said they will fix any challenge and take action against any health worker who sleeps on his/her job.
"We are aware of some of the challenges our residents go through when seeking health service in our public hospitals but we will fix them," he said.
