Kisii Senator Chris Obure has urged the Abagusii community to embrace unity ahead of the 2017 general election.

Speaking on Friday at Nyabururu grounds during the burial preparations for former Nyabigena high school Principal Joseph Obare, Obure accused a section of Kisii politicians of dividing the community along political lines.

“This is a new year for politics and I therefore ask Kisii residents to be wary of those with an intention of dividing us. We must stand united and speak in one voice,” appealed Obure.

He added: “We have less than two years before the coming elections. It is high time we come out and make one decision; to support our brother Raila Amolo Odinga in the 2017 elections.”

Obure, who has not confirmed whether he will be defending his senatorial seat or contest for Kisii gubernatorial seat as many speculate, said Raila is the only leader who would deliver Kenyans from bondage.

He hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for fulfilling some of the promises he made to the Kisii residents but challenged him to fulfill all the pledges the government gave when they paid a visit to State House.

“A delegation of leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties paid a visit to President Kenyatta on February last year and he promised us so many things including infrastructure. We have seen some getting fulfilled while some not yet. I ask him to honour his pledges before the coming elections,” demanded the senator.
