Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has called on area residents to embrace environmental conservation for a healthy society.

Ongwae, who was officially presiding over the close of National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) clean up exercise at Gusii Stadium Grounds, called on the public to be environmental watchdog and fight any practices that may lead to destruction of environment.

“Of particular interest are water catchment areas which are very important to our existence now and for the future generations,” said Ongwae

He added that when the environment is dirty there is a high chance of people contracting diseases which make people to be inactive in their duties leading to poor performance and even loss of life.

The governor insisted that clean environment makes its’ people healthy that people could not spend much resources on treatment of dirty environment related sickness but focus on activities that earn them income and generate revenue to the government.

He said that his government is committed to environmental conservation and taking care of all wetland areas in the county by ensuring that all catchment areas are fenced off in order to retain them as well as provide clean and secure water for domestic and industrial consumption.

Ongwae appealed NEMA to make sure that they recover all wetland areas that had previously been tampered with.
