Nyamira women representative Alice Chae has challenged members of the press to report objectively on matters of public interest.
Chae noted objective reporting will alleviate wrongs in the society like corruption and bad governance.
“The media is the eye and mirror of the society. Be objective and factual in your reporting by unearthing all wrongs done by anyone of us," she said.
"Do not be compromised in your work. Neither should I be spared if I am found wanting,” said the former Egesa head and presenter.
However, Chae recognised the role played by journalists in informing the public on various happenings in the community.
She, in particular, hailed Egesa FM for its role in dissemination of information:
“Our Ekegusii radio station has been instrumental in the passage of critical information to our people. I hail Macharia for coming up with the community radio station. It has been of great impact to our community.”
Nancy Kwamboka fondly referred to as Nana Diva, said the station will fearlessly and objectively continue airing matters of interest that affects the community and the nation at large.
“Though sometimes we receive threats and experience hard times when we air sensitive information. We will continue to disseminate information to the public so long as it is fit for public consumption and meant to improve the state of our community,” said the radio manager.
Former councilor Steve Arika noted tremendous achievements made in the region through Egesa radio.
“Our people are well informed on the matter of politics, farming, business and above all, the station has been in the forefront in supporting talents like musicians and comedians, and rallying for unity,” noted the flamboyant politician, famously referred to as ‘King maker’.
Nyabururu Girls national school Principal Mrs. Elmeldah Ochenge hailed Egesa station in its educative and moral programmes that she attested to have helped shape students' morals to become responsible members of the society.
Her Sironga counterpart, Hellen Nyabuto challenged the station management to come up with a TV station for the community.
Father Lawrence Nyaanga and James Obaigwa, Reverend Pastor Victor Mose of African Inland Church-Kisii among other clergy leaders, applauded the station management for taking into consideration spiritual nourishment amongst listeners.
