Families in several Kisumu estates have lauded the fumigation exercise conducted by the county government over the past week.
Residents of Nyalenda, Obunga, Nyamasaria, Kondele, Manyatta said since the fumigation exercise, they are able to live in their houses with no disturbance.
Last week, a team from the public health officers embarked on exercise to rid households of bed bugs after receiving complaints from the affected families.
Speaking to this writer on Monday evening, beneficiaries of the exercise said the insects usually struck during the night giving them sleepless nights.
“After a long day at work, all you want to do is rest but when you get home, the nightmare of bed bugs stares at you. Thanks to that county government that all is now history,” said Auma Awour, a Manyatta resident.
The residents said they had given up on the fight against the insects since their own efforts had terribly failed.
“We employed all the knowledge we could in fighting the bugs but we failed. The insecticide used by the public health officials seems to have sorted the problem,” said Johnston Omoro.
The fumigation exercise is being rolled out to other estates.
