The Nakuru county disaster preparedness and coordinating committee is on the spot for failing to execute their mandate as more families continue to spend nights in the cold after being displaced by the on going heavy rains.
"We were made to believe that in Nakuru, all measures were in place to contain the effects of these rains but to date, nothing tangible is on going as we continue to suffer," lamented Joshua Kiarie, a businessman from Solai who has sought refuge in a friends rental house in Bahati after Lake Solai burst its banks 2 weeks ago.
He accuses the county government of neglecting them in a time of need further called on the relevant authorities to move in and avert the situation. Sarah Wairimu, a resident from Kwa Rhonda slums who is among the 200 families rendered homeless after a heavy downpour on Wednesday night has called on the governor Mbugua to act as a matter of urgency.
"We are really suffering here while those we voted into the office are enjoy their lives in posh estates, where is our governor?" she wondered.
They are now calling for humanitarian aid and relief food to keep them going as they seek for other options. More than 500 families are estimated to have lost their homes in Solai and Rhonda areas as heavy rains continue to cause more harvoc in Nakuru.
