Youths in Rhonda slum have appealed to the county government to offer them more opportunities in the ongoing road upgrading exercise in the area.

Speaking on Wednesday when the exercise resumed after the December holiday break, they said it was only fair that they be enlisted to help in the exercise because they were the hosts of the project, and would also do some good job.

Tom Wekesa, stated that they fully endorsed the exercise but wished it could help young men whose lives were wasting away in drugs and crime.

"Much as the county government is doing some good job here, it should prioritise the youth from this area in some manual work so that drug abuse and crime can reduce since that is the order of the day here," he said.

He was seconded by Kevin Karimi, who said as area youths, they looked up to such opportunities since meaningful employment had failed to come by.

"There are no better opportunities out there save for menial jobs. In fact, opportunities like this one is what we look up to these days,"he said.

The county government is upgrading major feeder roads in parts of Nakuru West, with the Rhonda-Shabab and Kaptembwa-Shabab roads among those earmarked for the project.
