Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has denied claims she plans to contest for the Kisumu Central MP seat.
She said rumours making rounds that she will settle for the MP seat in 2017 were misleading.
Speaking on Tuesday during the International Women’s Day celebrations held at Car Wash, Ruth said she was not lining up for any political position.
“I am not party to what men sit around the table and plan on which leadership positions to be given to women. I have my ambitions and I would like to clarify that I have no intentions of vying for the position of Kisumu Central MP,” she said.
With the 2017 elections drawing closer, contestants of the various seats within Kisumu County have been traversing the county popularising factions they will use to clinch their positions.
The gubernatorial race has seen the incumbent Jack Ranguma, Senator Anyang Nyong’o and Ogra Foundation boss Hezron Macobewa as front runners.
Ruth who vied for the position in 2013 has repeatedly mentioned that people have been approaching her to join their camps either as the deputy governor or Kisumu Central MP, moves she claims are meant to demean women.
“Let nobody claim that women cannot go for the top leadership positions, and that people will sit in a room and decide for them,” she said.
Kisumu Central MP seat is currently held by Ken Obura (ODM).
