Senator Kimani Wamatangi has faulted calls by a section of MCAs to endorse Governor William Kabogo as the running mate for Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 general elections.
Wamatangi has termed the endorsement as premature and likely to create political divisions.
Speaking in Ruiru after attending the pass out parade ceremony at the Kenya Prisons Staff College in Ruiru on Tuesday, Wamatangi asked the MCAs in the county to focus on ensuring that Jubilee wins the 2017 general election.
Wamatangi said that winning the 2017 general election for President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto should be the first priority.
“As leaders under the Jubilee umbrella we should focus on making sure that President Kenyatta and Ruto win the 2017 general election before thinking of 2022,” he said.
Wamatangi also asked leaders to stop early campaigns and endorsement and instead focus on service delivery.
He said that it was unfortunate some leaders had abandoned their work and were engaging in early political campaigns.
Last week Kiambu county Deputy Speaker Antony Macharia said that Kabogo was the right leader to deputize Ruto in 2022.
He said that Kabogo has the qualities of becoming the deputy president or even the president.
Macharia who is also the Bibirioni MCA said the region will fully support Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.
