Suspended National Oil Corporation of Kenya Managing Director Sumayya Hassan-Athman has been reinstated.

Deputy President William Ruto said in Malindi that Ms Hassan is back to her job.

Ms Hassan was early this month sent on a compulsory leave to pave way for investigations into the alleged loss of Sh270 million at the corporation.

The DP made the announcement Monday evening at a meeting with the Muslim community from Malindi Constituency at the Red Cross Social Hall.

Mr Ruto is in the constituency to drum up support for Jubilee Party candidate Phillip Charo who is vying for Malindi parliamentary seat.

The Malindi by-elections will be held on March 7.

Ms Hassan's suspension has been a campaign issue in the campaigns for the seat, with the opposition using it as a demonstration that "the government has no regard" for Malindi people.
