Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Isaac Terer has called for the resignation of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as Senate minority leader over his alleged involvement in the BAT bribery scam as revealed by the BBC.

Wetangula has since denied the allegations, and ordered his lawyer to take legal action against the broadcaster which aired the story on its Panorama programme.

However, speaking in his office on Friday, Terer said Wetangula has been vocal in calling for Cabinet secretaries named in alleged corruption activities to resign and he should follow suit by showing a good example.

"I urge Senator Wetangula to do a noble thing by resigning as the leader of minority in the Senate if he really supports the fight against corruption for investigations to take their course," he said.

He also challenged the opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga to support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the war on corruption by calling for the resignation of Wetangula.

"It’s time for the leader of the opposition Raila Odinga to show his commitment on the fight against graft by calling for the resignation of his co-principal,” the county assembly speaker added.
