The government has been urged to move in and help residents in Nakuru County who are suffering from frequent attacks by wild animals from the Mau forest.
According to the County Chamber of Commerce and industry (CCI), the attacks were negatively affecting on the residents because other than inflicting body injuries their crops and animals are not spared.
Addressing the press in Nakuru town on Friday, CCI county coordinator Kamau Njuguna called on the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to help solve the issue to allow the affected people live peacefully.
“It is slowly getting out of hand because the attacks have become too frequent but nothing is being done. We call on KWS to put electric fences to help confine the wildlife in the forest,” he said.
Njuguna also called on residents in the affected areas to stop encroaching into forest land because in such a case, nobody will take responsibility.
“Don’t cross into the forest boundary to cultivate then later complain that wild animals were destroying your crops, in fact that it a crime and you should be arrested,” he advised.
This comes after residents of Chigamis, Emitik and Kaplamboi in Kuresoi South demonstrated on Tuesday over frequent attacks by elephants that had totally destroyed their crops.
