Machakos does not experience so much traffic jam but in Machakos town Central Business District (CBD) sometimes it gets pretty messy when vehicles interlock at a junction for hours.

Kenyan government loses millions of shillings every day, thanks to the notorious traffic jam that is a characteristic of our major roads and highways.

It is even more pronounced in urban centres like Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru and Eldoret.

The county government of Nairobi introduced 'Yellow boxes' at major junctions in the CBD to curb traffic jam.

This is a step in the right direction and other towns should follow suit.

However, the 'yellow boxes' will not help much if motorists are not sensitised.

Kenyans, usually take long to adapt to a new idea and that is why the government spends a lot of money on sensitisation campaigns.

Morotists are not allowed to enter a 'yellow box' until when the junction is clear.

This will keep the traffic moving and reduce jam. With enough sensitisation, 'yellow boxes' will work.
