Residents of Kiambu County have been urged to be on look out for con-artists who are demanding money from people promising to secure them jobs in international organizations.
The County Commissioner, Esther Maina said they have received numerous complaints from members of the public who have been swindled by people promising employment opportunities at an international non-for-profit organization.
Addressing the press on Tuesday in her office, Maina said the fraudsters have been on the increase in the area and have been daring enough to place posters on government premises.
“Some of those who have reported to us say they saw a poster at their chief’s office and were required to pay Sh500 application fee, after which they received a message telling them when and where to report,” she explained.
The Commissioner said some of them were told to report at her office by the con-men.
“We have so far identified the person who is receiving the cash and investigations are underway to nab those involved in the scam,” she added.
She said that conmen are targeting job-seekers. She appealed to those who have been affected to record statements with the police to aid in investigations.
