A 29-year-old woman was on Tuesday charged with possesion of marijuana rolls worth Sh15,000 in a Kisumu court .
Purity Akinyi denied the charges when she appeared before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Esther Maina.
The offence was allegedly committed on September 25 in Obunga slums in the lakeside city.
She was arrested following a tip off by the public, before the bhang was impounded at her grocery shop.
Akinyi however told the court that she was not the owner of the drugs and claimed that she had leased the stall and the drugs could have been left there by the previous tenant.
Akinyi was released on a cash bail of sh 10, 000 with surety of a simillar amount pending the hearing of the case on November 14.
The prosecution had earlier asked the court to remand the accused for a week to allow time for search of more drugs in her premises.
The court, however, declined the request.
Kenya's statute books make it an offence to possess, cultivate and sell bhang. If caught, one can be fined up to Sh10 million, or imprisoned for not less than 10 years. It can even attract a lifetime sentence.
