A suspect was arrested by police in Kisumu on Friday after he was found in  possession of bhang with an approximate street value of Sh400,000.

The police who laid a trap for the suspect, arrested the suspect with 4,200 sticks of bhang which they say he might have been trying to transport to either Nairobi or Mombasa.

The haul was found in a Modern Coast bus from Migori, an area said to be notorious for the drug trade allegedly smuggled through the border.

According to Kisumu County Police Commander, Nelson Njiri, the suspect had tried to conceal the drug in sacks that were filled with used shoes, but it took the efforts of the members of the public who alerted the police in good time, to arrest the suspect.

He was later taken to Kisumu Central police Station where he was held before taken to court where he answered charges related to drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, another suspect Simon Onyango was arrested for giving false information to the police.

Onyango had earlier reported that he had been kidnapped, robbed Sh200, 000 and dumped at Milimani Estate, prompting the police to trace the vehicle that he was in to Kibos where it was abandoned.

It was later confirmed that he had been duped by money launderers into tripling of his Sh50,000 to Sh150, 000.
