Women have been urged to break their silence and help curb increasing cases of sexual violence against them.

This is according to Georgina Obonyo of Dance4Life Kenya.

Obonyo has also challenged the youths to stand out and condemn sexual offences that mostly target women.

She was addressing a public forum at Mizuka Centre in Kibera after a demonstration on Monday aiming at piling pressure on the government to ensure that 'doctor' Mugo Wa Wairimu is not set free following allegations that he had been sexually abusing women seeking gynecological services from his clinic.

"I appeal to young girls and women to come out and report incidences of sexual harassment. There are various organisations in Kibera that are out to educate the residents on how to deal with sexual violence. We should take such training seriously to help us fight  gender-based violence," she said.

She added that sexual violence exists even among married people.

"It is important to note that even married women do fall victims of sexual harassment in their marriages. Any sexual intercourse without the consent of one partner is categorised as rape."
