A man from Masinga location who was charged with threatening to kill his uncle over sand harvesting was on Wednesday released on a cash bail by a Machakos court.

The suspect, Evans Ndanu who appeared before Resident Magistrate Martha Mutuku denied the charge and was set free on Sh30,000 with a surety bond of a similar amount.

The court heard that on April 17 this year at around 2pm in Masinga area, the accused threatened to kill his uncle Stephen Mwau after the two disagreed on the sand site left to the family by the Ndanu’s late father.

The prosecution told the court that on the said date, the accused met the complainant on the road being drunk and started hurling insults at him.

They later on met at the site where he threatened him as he was carrying a panga with him.

The complainant reported the matter to the area chief who later sought help from Masinga Police Post.

The accused was later arrested and held at the police post before being transferred to Machakos Town Police Station.

The case will be heard on November 7.
