Kibera member of parliament Ken Okoth has called upon students from his constituency who sat for last year's KCSE examination to apply for bursaries to enable them further their education.
Addressing journalists on Monday, the MP urged the students to take advantage of the CDF bursaries that his office is currently offering to support their college and university education.
"We are calling upon our students who sat for last year's KCSE to apply for bursaries as they plan to join colleges and universities during August, September intake. We are planning to give about Sh10,000 for each student this time," said Okoth.
He has encouraged those wishing to join technical institutions to also partake of the funds.
"Those who are joining technical colleges or taking short courses like driving, hairdressing, carpentry, and tailoring should not shy away because it is their rights and no one should deny them so long as they have the required qualifications," said Okoth.
The MP said requirements for applications include submission of an admission letter from the university or college to which the student is set to join, fee structure of the institution, a copy of KCSE result slip, a copy national Identity card, a copy of voters card and proof of whether the student has any disability or other special cases such as orphans.
"For those who have not attained the age 18 years, their parents or guardians shall be required to stand-in for them by submitting their ID and voters cards. All these documents should be submitted to the CDF office by October 19, 2015," said Okoth.
