A section of Kisii University students have accused the management of failing to implement a fee reduction plan that was agreed in May this year.
The agreement was reached at after a meeting between the student body and varsity management.
The policy required students in the self-sponsorship programme to pay Sh88,000 per academic year from the current S110,000.
On Tuesday, a section of students from Kisii University vowed to paralyse learning if the management failed to effect the agreement, with a number of them threatening to seek inter-university transfer.
“We are not happy at all that it is now more than a semester since the management agreed to slash our fee by 10 per cent yet it has not implemented the agreement. We are frustrated and the institution must act with speed to rectify the issue before we seek inter-university transfers,” said Aggrey Odhiambo on behalf of the students.
However, the institution’s VC Prof John Akama said the agreement will be implemented soon without disclosing the exact date.
“I understand that we had an agreement and we are bound to abide by it. I will ensure that we fulfill the agreement,” he told Hivisasa.com in his office.
But the students said the delay was making parents undergo difficulties in fee payment while some of their colleagues have been forced to defer their studies.
“The current fee structure is strenuous for our parents and it will be a relief if the institution acted with speed to implement the agreement. Some of us have since differed studies,” he added.
