Uasin Gishu County Assembly has passed a motion asking the county executive to come up with regulations of boda boda industry following increased accidents and criminal cases associated with the operators.

Moisbridge MCA Daniel Sanga said many road accidents caused by boda boda operators have forced hospitals to create special wards for victims.

He said that despite boda boda industry creating employment to the youth, it should be regulated for the good of the public.

"Boda Boda industry has boosted the economy, and by introducing laws to govern the industry, the public and the country will reap more," he said.

Kapseret MCA Pauline Tuwei seconded the motion, saying that many young people have been maimed in accidents caused by the operators.

MCA Hurama Peter Chomba also rooted for the regulations, but asked for caution during implementation.

He said that innocent operators should not be harassed.
