Athi River Sub-County residents have been cautioned against spreading HIV/Aids intentionally, thus increasing the region's infection rates.
Addressing a public meeting in Athi River Town on Monday, Athi River assistant commissioner Said Shaban, said the practise was against the law and was therefore a criminal offence.
"HIV prevalence rates records show that HIV infections are high in Mlolongo Town than in any part of the county. If you realise you are infected with the virus, it is a criminal offence to infect others intentionally," said Shaban.
Shaban said those fond of engaging in risky sexual behaviour after contracting the disease with intent of spreading it will face the wrath of the law.
He called on residents to visit VCT centres across the sub-county, both public and private, so as to know their HIV status.
"It is important for residents in the sub-county to know their HIV status," said Shaban.
He said his office will continue educating residents about the disease, by holding several public barazas across the sub-county.
