According to Kisii County Director of Environment Samson Bokea, unlike other animals, the bats in Kisii town that live around administration offices and opposite county headquarters offices are a tourist attraction phenomena.
Boeka said many tourists visit the town to see the bats.
Bokea who was speaking to journalists in his office on Wednesday said the bats spend their daytime on trees while at night they travel to South Nyanza to eat fruits.
“I call these bats a tourist attraction since they are many in this place like no other place,” said Bokea.
He has however called for research on bats and whether they affect the lifestyle of other animals and people.
“As the Director of Environment I cannot say that these mammals have affected people, researchers should do their research and come up with a report,” he recommended.
Some residents have however lamented that the bats' waste have affected business in the town and are calling on the county government to eliminate them.
“You cannot do any business here while there are bats, their waste affect us, we are requesting the county government to eliminate them so that we can have a business friendly environment,” said Edward Moseti, a trader.
