Nakuru Catholic Diocese Bishop Maurice Muhatia has cautioned standard eight candidates against cheating in exams.

“Students should demonstrate honesty in exams and should do away with dishonest practices to improve their mean grades," said Muhatia.

Speaking on Friday at Christ The King School, in Nakuru town during a prayer session for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education candidates, the bishop called on the government to address the malpractices in the education sector especially exam leakages .

"The government should show commitment in addressing the deceitful practices in our education sector,” he said.

The cleric noted that it is unfair to subject some candidates to unfair competition from candidates who are involved in exam leakages.

He also said it’s wrong for students to involve themselves in deceitful and dishonest practices in national exams.

“The dishonest practices subject candidates to unfair competitions which later produce students who are not qualified,” said Muhatia.

He further urged education stakeholders to review the education system to allow students to focus on acquiring skills to solve day to day problems.

“Education experts should revise the examination system to elicit process that allow students to apply knowledge to solve issues in real-life situations,” he added..

The occasion was attended by parents who urged the government to take tough action against those behind exam leakages.
