National and county governments have been urged to conduct senstisation programmes to educate persons with disabilities on the tendering process.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, the National Council for Persons Living With Disabilities Uasin Gishu COunty chairman Titus Yego, said a majority of the disabled have not applied for the 30 per cent tenders set aside for the marginalised groups for lack of information.

"We have been told that out of the 30 per cent tenders allocated for the disabled, women and youths, 10 per cent is for people with disabilities,"he said.

The chairman said is hard for the disabled to apply since most of them are challenged financially and even accessing the information which in most cases is published in the print media is a tall order for them.

"By carrying out sensitisation programmes at the ward levels, it will equip them with skills and knowledge on how to access the tenders,"he said

Yego said that only ten per cent of the disabled have applied for tenders hence the need for training.

"I urge people with disabilities across the board to form and join groups and apply for the tenders since they are meant for them or else they be given to other people," he said.
