Kisii county Government has been challenged to be accountable on how they have spent the bursary funds and who the beneficiaries are.
According to Thomas Osoro, human rights activist from Rigena in Kisii county, the county has not done much in terms of bursaries funds since it has not listed the beneficiaries of the funds.
“We have been hearing that there are some beneficiaries of these funds but we need the county to come out clear by listing who them, ” said Osoro.
In, addition, he said that there are some vulnerable families in various wards who have never received any funds in terms of county bursary funds hence wondering who are this being helped if the poor are sidelined .
“There are some students from poor families who have never received such funds hence we what to know who receives the money if the poor are not the beneficiaries," added Osoro.
He also raised concern by urging the county Government to be transparent before increasing the amount to Sh5 million from Sh3 million.
“The county Government is planning to increase the amount to Sh5 million we are not against that but we want them to account on what the Sh3 million has been doing and who are the beneficiaries,” said Osoro.
