Police in Kisii will use all resources to combat drug trafficking along Kisii-Migori road.

Reports say the drugs are usually transported from Tanzania illegally.

This comes hours after police in Gesonso nabbed a vehicle transporting bhang of an estimated value of Sh2 million from Migori en route Nairobi.

Speaking in his office on Tuesday Kisii County commissioner Mwangi Chege urged police officers to be more vigilant in checkpoints to apprehended perpetrators of illicit businesses.

He said drug abuse was a universal problem and could only be combated if there was collective effort from the police and members of the public to identify drug barons.

“Drug trafficking has no room in the modern society. Those who think can use Migori-Kisii road should forget about it. I really thank the police for the great work they are doing and we need to do more to arrest those in the illicit business. We also need good will from members of public to deal with this menace,” he said.

Mwangi also warned officers who may tend to cooperate with the drug barons and challenged them to show integrity of the highest level to gain public trust.

“We don’t condone corruption. Officers who think that they can conspire with the culprits will have their days numbered. Integrity is fundamental. This is the only way we can cooperate and bring to book those in the business to spoil the bright future of our young generation. We are going to use all resources available to deal with those in the business regardless of who they are,” he added.
