The county government of Nyamira has set aside Sh40 million to buy fire engines as part of its plan to improve the disaster management system.
Speaking at the county headquarters during a fire fighting training session conducted by officials from Las Vegas county from the US, Governor John Nyagarama said his government was keen to equip its disaster management department to combat future calamities.
He urged the newly trained officials to be prompt whenever their services are needed by the public.
“I am happy that our county has conducted training for our firefighters. We have set aside Sh40 million for the purchase of fire engines which will be delivered by the end of March. This is a tremendous step because we want to equip our disaster management system so that we combat fire tragedies in future. I hope those who have been trained will always respond quickly whenever their services are needed,” he said.
He said the fire engines will be located in all five sub counties for efficiency and urged residents to give his government time to fulfill its promises.
“We will only manage five due to limited resources and they will be stationed in every sub county. These are some of pledges we vowed before getting to power and it will be essential if you give us time to fulfill then,” added Mr Nyagarama.
He lauded the US team for donating boots, head masks and their voluntary training of county fire fighters.
“I want to thank the Las Vegas team for donations and voluntary training. I am sure our officials will be able to handle the engines once we acquire them.
