Women from Nyamira County in Borabu constituency have lauded the county leadership for ensuring they are not discriminated in economic empowerment activities.
Mandeleo Ya Wanawake Borabu branch secretary general Mary Ongisa Monday led a number of women at Dum Side Hotel to back the John Nyagarama led government.
According to them, women were given an equal share in tendering as provided by the constitution with a number of them reportedly winning mega tenders.
“A lot has been said about the county leadership which is mostly negative but as women from Borabu, we want to say unanimously that the county has done a lot to empower women. We are aware of a number of tenders that have been given to fellow women and this is a good gesture that the governor and his leadership are obeying the constitution,” she said.
They also hailed the county governor's wife Naomi Nyagarama for leading campaigns of empowering women groups and girls child in the region, terming the efforts as great boost to the female gender.
“It’s not just tenders. We have seen the governor's wife partnering with micro-finance institutions to boost women groups. The girls’ child has not been left behind either. They are receiving sanitary towels as well as fighting FGM that has been a catastrophe to our community. Those alone showed how the county leadership has been a great boost to women,” she added.
