People with hearing challenges in Kibera have appealed to area MP Ken Okoth to build more schools for the deaf.
Speaking to the MP on Tuesday, their representative Ishmael Mohammed complained that the region only has one school for the deaf.
"It is unfortunate that there is only one school for the deaf in Kibera and is very far from DC area. We are asking you as our Member of Parliament in conjunction with the Constituency Development Fund office to build us another school so that we can also access education easily like other people," said Mohammed through his interpreter.
He thanked Okoth for counting the disabled people as worthy in society.
Mohammed said the MP has exercised equality by allowing the deaf people to attend the mentorship workshop for young graduates which concluded on Tuesday.
He said the deaf are equally important in society since they can perform duties as other people can.
"You have allowed us to access the Uwezo Fund as the disabled and we are humbled that you did that. What we are appealing to you now is that you build us more schools so that we can further our studies," he told the MP.
