Residents of Enchoro village, West Mugirango constituency, on Tuesday benefited from a free eye checkup, organised by Royal media’s Egesa FM presenter Francis Gichana.

Speaking during the event which was held at Enchoro Primary school, Gichana said the exercise will be carried out twice a year, adding that extreme cases will be referred to Kikuyu Eye Unit and Tenwek for special treatment.

The presenter said many people were suffering from eye problems that can be treated but were unable to get special treatment due to poverty.

“I decided to come up with the initiative so that we could act in time to prevent increasing cases of our people going blind simply because they cannot afford treatment. I have reached an agreement with the management of Kikuyu and Tenwek hospitals' eye departments to handle the extreme cases,” said Gichana.

Gichana lauded the Nebraska Evangelism Group for partnering with Neema Ministries to fund the exercise, adding that it will soon be extended to all regions across the county.

“I am overwhelmed by the support we have gotten from Nebraska Evangelism Group. They have made it possible for us to hold the free clinic twice a year. We will consider covering all regions in Nyamira within a stipulated time,” he said.
